In the words of Mikao Usui, "Reiki is the art of inviting happiness."
Reiki healing is a natural self-contained system of enlightenment and hands-on energy healing. A technique thousands of years old, discovered by Dr Mikao Usui, a professor of Christian theology in Kyoto, Japan.
The name Reiki comes from the Japanese pronunciation of two Chinese characters that are said to describe the energy itself: REI (soul/spirit/God) and KI (life force energy).
What does does REI and KI mean:
Rei - means spiritual wisdom, soul or spirit.
Ki - means Life Force. In Chinese its CHI, in Sanskrit its PRANA and in Hawaiian its MANA. Its also known as the vital life force or the universal life force.
KI is responsive to thoughts and feelings. When we have positive, optimistic thoughts, we increase our flow of "KI" and this causes us to feel better. However, when we have negative thoughts , our "KI" is disrupted and diminished and we do not feel as good. When our negative thoughts become lodged in the sub-conscious mind, they create a permanent disruption of the flow of "KI". This can cause illness and affect organs and tissues in our body unless the blockages are released.
Having Reiki treatments can help keep your life force energy high, and flowing freely through your body and you are less likely to get sick. It animates the body and is also the primary energy of our emotions, thoughts and spiritual life.
Reiki is beneficial for treating all levels; physical, emotional, spiritual. It strengthens your immune system and can help heal physical illness and also non-physical ailments such as anxiety, depression, tension, mental and emotional disturbances.
Reiki is a journey, and each person's winding path is unique.
Reiki treatment is performed by a practitioner/healer by allowing the Usui reiki energy to flow through their palms to heal a specific body part where healing is required.
Reiki energy heals in several ways; it can raise the vibration level in and around the physical body, where negative thoughts and feelings are attached, by flowing through the affected parts of the energy field and charging them with positive energy. Reiki clears, straightens and heals and usually lifts up the blocked energy to a higher field of energy by melting and transmuting it away.
While receiving Reiki, you may feel some sensations such as cold feelings, tingly feelings or a feeling of heat when the blockage is being burnt up and released. This is followed by a feeling of well-being with the "KI" energy flowing naturally, and then the physical body can then complete its own healing. After a reiki treatment you may feel tired and you will need to drink plenty of water.
Reiki treatments can work alongside other kinds of treatments. It can be received with regular medical or psychological treatment, as it can help and improve results. It can help reduce adverse side effects, such as chemotherapy, surgery and invasive procedures. It can help to shorten healing time, reduce and eliminate pain, reduce stress and help create optimism.
Reiki can never cause harm or have any side effects, because Reiki is guided by the universal Life Force. The practitioner is also not directly doing the healing and hence she is not in any danger of taking on the karma of the client. Reiki always knows what a person needs and will adjust itself to create an effect that is appropriate for the client.
There are many kinds of energy healing. All healing energy has Ki or life energy as one of its important parts. All healers use "KI", but not all use Usui REIKI. Reiki is life energy that is guided by the higher powers. Practitioners need to receive a Reiki attunement to be able to use it.
While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion. It has no dogma and there is nothing you must believe in oder to receive Reiki. Reiki will work whether you believe in it or not.
